Introduction:
Osteoarthritis is one of the most common diseases of the hip joint, resulting in significant pain and disability. One of the therapeutic methods that bring significant positive effects is mobilization with movement according to Mulligan.
Aim:
The aim of the study was to examine the effect of the Mulligan mobilization with movement method on reducing pain, increasing hip joint mobility and improving the quality of life.
Case study:
A 60-year-old female patient who had been suffering from hip joint degeneration for 16 years, underwent 20 sessions using the Mulligan mobilization with movement method using a therapeutic belt with passive and active participation of the patient, low and high positions.
Discussion:
Improvement in the range of motion of passive flexion from 101° to 113°, extension from 12° to 18°, abduction from 29° to 35°, adduction from 11° to 18°, external rotation from 34° to 37°, internal rotation from 21° to 30° was observed. The patient's quality of life measured using the SF-36 questionnaire improved by 19 points, the pain sensations decreased by 0.5 points on the VAS scale. The hip joint function improved by 12 points according to the HHS questionnaire.
Conclusions:
The use of the Mulligan mobilization with movement method in a patient suffering from degenerative disease of the hip joint improved the range of motion of the hip joint, improved the quality of life, reduced pain and improved the functionality of the hip joint.
